Well, on second thought….

I know I said I was donating a bunch of things to Goodwill this week.  I said that, didn’t I?  Well, I DID, get rid of a few things, but as the box was going out the door, I pulled two things back out.  “Wait!”, I said.  “I can do something with that!”  Oh boy….You know what came back out of the box…

Yep, you guessed it.  I cut up that dress and made a skirt.  It’s a very simple 8-gored skirt from Hot Patterns.  It’s a free download, found here.

This pattern is simple; I carefully cut 8 gores from that old dress.  Why?  I don’t know.

What is it about this kooky fabric that draws me to it?  Why am I so loath to part with it?  I really can’t say.  I mean, just look at how shiny this is!  Where on earth will I wear this???  I have no idea.

Here’s what I came up with:

And, this:

We’ve had all day rain ALL WEEK LONG!! (no outside pictures)

I did so some research on this color.  It’s amazing at what what appears when one does a search on “copper metallic skirt”.  Suffice it to say, that this color was mostly worn with black or a very pale nude or cream color.  Anyway, this garment will return to my closet.  Maybe it’ll get worn more than the dress, I don’t know.  At any rate, this pattern is definitely a keeper, another great HotPatterns free downloadable.

Here’s the other thing I snagged from the box:

This J Crew sweater is at least 20 years old.  It started out as a size XL for DH many moons ago.  Many cold water-hand washings later, and it has shrunken up to be too short, even on me.  I’ve put it in a hot water wash to shrink it up even further.  I see a cool striped purse made out of this.  I even have the leather handles!   So, Yea for me for being Little-Miss-Upcycle!!

  1. A great ‘save’….really like it with the black turtle neck…a good mix of practical + glitz…

  2. Good thinking! I love the new skirt.

  3. Great save for that fabric! I love the bling factor – every one needs some bling to wear, and the skirt is a great choice.
