New Years Cleaning
Happy New Year to you all!! We traveled on New Years Eve and returned home on the 4th, which gave us a few remaining days off before school starts back. Around here, that means cleaning, purging, you know, “out with the old, in with the new”. I cleaned out my closet, eliminating a few things, consigning others. I have to do this because my closet is really small, no where near the size of this:
from Pinterest, but also my dream closet.
Fabulous, no? just look at all of those shoes! And the space for all of those purses! I die!!! Ahem, back to reality…
I do the whole “have you worn it in a year?” thing, and eliminated some items, among which was this number:
I made this way back in 2007, and have worn this only once…time to get rid of it. Fortunately, that was the only handmade thing to make the “cut list” this time. I consigned a few sweaters and one pair of shoes. I upcycled another item. Remember this?

I never wore it. I think it was because I hemmed it too low. I cut off about 5 inches and refashioned it into a tunic:
worn with my “new” cowl:
Better! I’ve already worn this more times than when it was a dress!
I love it when this happens, being able to neaten things, reuse things. I hope you all can do the same!!
I need a closet like that! I just got back from travelling for 2 weeks, and am really discontent with my small closets and all the summer clothes I put back into them! I love that dress, but I have the same rule: if it doesn’t get worn within 12 months, it goes out the door to make someone else happy. I am truly horrible with upcycling, mostly because I rarely fall so in love with fabric that I just HAVE to keep it. That said, there are 2 items in my sewing stash that are going to be upcycled just because I don’t want to see the fabric walk out the door!
I know! Is that closet not TDF?? Only in my dreams!….sigh
