Vogue 8668

I’m determined to get all unfinished Summer sewing projects done before starting any winter garments.  This is one of them, Vogue 8668.  According to the Vogue website, it’s on clearance, which probably means it’s soon to go out of print.

This is one of these pieces of fabric that screamed to me at the store, but then sat in my stash for far too long because I didn’t know what to do with it.  It’s beautiful silk charmeuse that I bought at Gail K’s.

This is a an easy top, it’s just oversized with kimono sleeves.  The seam down the front adds interest and keeps it from being just a big plain sack.  It is a little fussy, though.  The instructions have you making button loops down the front, and then sewing up the center seam, making them nonfunctional.  The buttons I used totally covers the loops, so I didn’t really need to add them.  I still like the use of the buttons, so next time, I would just sew the center seam closed and add buttons as a decoration only.

This is the picture of the waist casing.  This one gave me fits because I followed the directions.  They tell you to sew up a regular 5/8” seam, turn one allowance under, stitch it down, and then insert 1/4” wide elastic.  That makes for way too tight of a fit for the elastic  Funny thing was, I knew this was going to happen, but I kept going with it.  What was I thinking?  Did I want to spent two extra nights on this that I didn’t need to?  Well, I guess I did; I ripped it all out and began with a 7/8” seam allowance.  Much nicer.

Please excuse the indoor shot, we’re feeling the effects of Isaac here in GA, with all-day soaker rains.

  1. Oh this is lovely! I loves me a tunic and the little button front is so cute- thanks for the warning about the superfluous loops!
