Burda Magazine 7/2009/133
Here’s garment #2 of my CAbi inspiration.
Arts Tunic – $89
I tried this top on at a party, and I LOVED it, but I didn’t care for the print. I found some poly chiffon at Joanne that I liked better. I searched through a lot of patterns in my stash to find something that closely resembled this top, and I think I came pretty close with top #133 from the July 2009 issue of Burda Magazine. It’s actually a plus- sized pattern, but for this top, it worked. Here’s the picture of the pattern from the magazine:
Here’s what I did to alter it:
There’s nothing to this pattern, it’s just a front and back. I traced off the smallest size, which I think is size 44. I came in about 10 1/2 inches from the end of the sleeve and made that my cutting line. You can see it in the picture above. Also, I drew a V-neck for the front and made a rounded neck in the back. The original pattern has that reversed. I sewed front to back, and added a casing 10 inches up from the bottom hem. I inserted 1/4 inch elastic, and that’s about it.
I used a narrow rolled hem for all edges and purchased bias tape at the neck edge. I love how this turned out!
I think the RTW version has somewhat bigger sleeve openings, so for my next version, I’ll add about 5 inches to the sleeve circumference.
I have a few other pieces in my queue to knock off:
The Sandy Trench Coat – $128
I’ll use Vogue 8732 and some stretch cotton poplin from my stash.
I haven’t worked on a Claire Schaeffer pattern in some time, so I’m looking forward to this!
Oh yes, you are a master forger- I love it!
This blouse looks smashing on you. Well sewn too!
Great job! I love the sleeves on that top. Looking forward to seeing your coat, too!
