Upcycled Sweater

Hello!  I think I mentioned that we’ve been doing a bunch of home improvements since this Fall, which involves moving furniture, stuff, reorganizing, etc.  I moved my sewing space from a spare bedroom to a much smaller room upstairs.  This room used to be the nursery, but the “baby” (now 13) needs his own room, so he gets the big spacious room.  All that detail just to say…I’ve been purging.  If you see a lot of future posts along that same vein, you’ll know why.  I’ve been throwing away or donating clothes, fabric, patterns, books, etc.  If the items in question are home-made, they’re much harder to let go, particularly if these things are gifted.  Enter an old sweater vest, made years ago by my Mom:

So, cute, made with lots of different yarns, eyelash, ribbon, wool, etc.  And, I love the colors.  I never wore it, decidedly not a vest person.  So, inspired by the holiday pillows at Pottery Barn, I turned the vest into this:

I had a 26’” by 16” pillow form that I used.  I also had the existing backing fabric a nice toile that sort-of matched (wasn’t going to buy any new fabric, purging, you know).  Here’s a picture with my flash on:

This is a fun project, completed in a few hours, and decreased a bit of stash.  Plus, I now have new use for an unworn sweater.
