Hot Patterns Top

sewing 098

I wasn’t sure what to do with this crazy sequined fabric from my recent Fabric.com haul.  Why not use a Fabric.com pattern for your Fabric.com fabric?  Yes, this is one of the free downloadable patterns from the website.  The patterns is Hotpatterns Cool, Calm and Cowl-necked Top, and the fabric is this sequined poly stretch stuff.  While it’s very stretchy, it’s not very drapey.  Ill have to make this one again, but in a much drapier fabric; still, I really like this top!  Great with jeans:

This is a fun little top with a cut-on cowl that you just fold to the inside.  The back neck has a facing piece that’s easy to install.  And then there’s the bottom band.  The whole thing is very easy to put together.  The only finishing needed is around the sleeve edges.  This fabric is not very drapey, so the cowl doesn’t drape very well.  Here’s a little trick I learned from a RTW garment that I had in my closet:

Add weights to the cowl to pull it down.  In this case, I tacked 2 large glass beads to the edge of the cowl.  Now turn the cowl to the inside of the garment, and voila!   The cowl has more drape!  This is a fun little top, great to wear with jeans.  For best results, use a very thin knit with lots of drape,
