Hot Patterns Metropolitan Tie Me Down Tops

"All tied up in these sweetly pretty and ultra-wearable knit tops, designed for soft, fluid knits with a little stretch…Top pulls on over the head for super-easy dressing…."
The pattern is from Hot Patterns and the greatest thing about this top is that there are no closures to make.  There are 3 rows of ruching at the shoulders and one row at the back waist, which I omitted.  The fabric is stretch charmeuse.  I made a size 10, based on the envelope pattern chart, but I could have used a smaller size.  It feels very "blouse-y" in the front.  I really like the detailed size chart that they now print on the envelopes, listing neck circumference, front shouolder width, under bust, etc.  I hope they continue to do this!
The ruching was not difficult, the instructions for this were included and detailed.  I did my own thing with it, though, and used elastic cording and couched it down with a zig-zag stitch.  There are facing patterns included, and I’m not a big fan of using facings, but for this shirt I used them.  They cover the ruching at the shoulders and go into the shoulder seam, for a nice finish.  The sleeves are set-in and gathered slightly at the shoulders.

Here’s another picture of the facings and the tie.

I didn’t pay attention to the directions for attaching the tie and I should have.  I now have a space at the Vee on the neck that wouldn’t be there had I paid attention.  No matter, everything’s hidden when the ties are tied.  This pattern is recommended for advanced beginners, but I think a beginner could pull this one off.
