Simplicity 5098

Sewing 007

Have you ever had one of those projects on your sewing table that have sat for so long that you’ve forgotten for what or why you’d decided to make it?  Here’s one.  I think I made this because I had the brocade in my stash and didn’t know what to do with it.  I think I bought Simplicity 5098 just for this purpose, but again, this one has been sitting on my table for at least 6 months; I’ve worked a little bit on it here and there, between other projects.  Finally, in a finishing-up-projects mode, I’ve completed it.

Details:  Pattern for tops in 6 views.  I like that this is a pattern with separate pieces for stretch fabrics and woven fabrics.  I made up view E, woven version with darts, false closure on the front and a lapped zipper in the back.

The false front closure has self fabric loops, black satin piping and buttons.

The back has a lapped zipper with a hook-and-eye at the top of the mandarin collar.

I like the cute little cap sleeve option and the close fit accomplished with darts.

Yeah, I know, picture quality stinks.  This is partly due from the brocade, which reads black, and partly due to the fact that I was in a cleaning up mode, and hurrying to get things done.  I’ve seen some reviews of this pattern made up using the stretch options which were really cute.  I kinda like this one also, shown here with jeans, but I think it would do well in a formal outfit as well.
